"A film on Delhi, India

The capital of India, Delhi blends a historic past and a vibrant present. This film shows the different culture, religion, tradition, monuments, food, fashion, faith and history of Delhi. Most fascinating of all is the character of Delhi which varies from the 13th century mausoleum of the Lodi kings set in a sprawling park to ultra modern chrome and glass skyscrapers; and from imperial India's Parliament House and the President's Palace to the never ending bustle of the walled city surrounding Jama Masjid. Present day Delhi is built around the ruins of seven ancient cities. Monuments, forts & palaces, temples, culture, tradition, cuisine, fairs & festivals, handicrafts, etc all are attractions of Delhi. Delhi's historic & historical monuments are architecturally beautiful and attention-grabbing. Delhi is itself home to several historical and newer monuments such as Red Fort, Old Fort, Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Humayun's Tomb, etc. Red Fort, Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb are UNESCO world heritage sites. Lotus Temple in Delhi is known for its beautiful architecture and has won numerous architectural awards. A grand parade is held near Rajpath in New Delhi every year. On Republic day the different regiments of the army, the Navy and the Air force march past in all their splendour. The parade is followed by a pageant of spectacular displays from the different states of the country. These moving exhibits depict scenes of activities of people in those states and the music and songs of that particular state accompany each display. Each display brings out the diversity and richness of the culture of India and the whole show lends a festive air to the occasion. The parade and the ensuing pageantry is telecast by the National Television of Doordarshan and is watched by millions of viewers in every corner of the country.

As Delhi gets ready to host the Commonwealth Games in October 2010 - regardless of whether it is prepared for the Games or not - this film becomes all the more relevant!
