Landmine convention gets underway in Geneva

Washington is being urged to sign up to the 1997 treaty banning landmines at a week-long congress in Geneva. In total 160 countries have already Okayed the accord - that leaves the US, China and Russia among the few world powers who still reject it. All cite security reasons but only Syria has deployed the devices in 2012.
