The fourth annual Governors Awards, which presents the Honorary Academy Awards, was a star-studded affair in Los Angeles on Saturday (December 1). Helen Hunt, Richard Gere and Amy Adams were just some of the actors seen on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony.

The Academy created the Governors Awards to reward recipients with a more robust tribute and to shorten the protracted Oscar broadcast.

Arts advocate and founding director of the American Film Institute, George Stevens Jr., documentarian D.A. Pennebaker and stunt performer Hal Needham won Honorary Academy Awards, while DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg was awarded a Humanitarian Award.

Seth MacFarlane, who is hosting the 85th Academy Awards, was also on hand.

SOUNDBITE Seth MacFarlane saying (English):

"We may be getting to the point where we're at awards show overload. I think when I was asked to do the porn awards that may be a sign that there were some that may need to fall by the wayside. But it's Hollywood, we love congratulating each other in public and then privately we love talking about how much we hate each other."

Previous Governors Awards years' winners include James Earl Jones, Oprah Winfrey and Lauren Bacall.
