A call for help in Gaza.

There is little rest for ambulance drivers and paramedics as Israeli air strikes hit the coastal enclave.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ADEL AL AZBAT, AMBULANCE CREW MEMBER, SAYING:

"I live under constant pressure because there are many calls from the people, sometimes the number of injuries is also high so the crowd will exert more pressure. However, I handle that pressure and I direct the ambulance."

Israel has carried out more than 1,500 strikes since the offensive began last week. Medical officials say 144 Palestinians, more than half of them civilians have been killed in the offensive.

Nearly 1,400 rockets have been fired into Israel, killing four civilians and a soldier.
