STORY: Times Square appeared to be coming back to life on Thursday after nearly three days of being mostly deserted due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

The "Crossroads of the World" as many call it, saw shops closed from late on Monday as torrential rains and heavy winds lashed the Midtown section of Manhattan.

But on Thursday morning things were returning to normal as limited subway service brought commuters back to the heart of the city.

Though tourists began filling the iconic square, it was still far from the bustling and crowded area that attracts roughly one million people each day.
