The Newshour Debate: Singur 2008, Haldia 2012 - Part 2 of 2

It's almost deja-vu in the West Bengal. Four years after the Singur shame another top corporate, Haldia Bulk Terminals, a cargo firm, jointly promoted by ABG group of India and French logistics company LDA, has pulled out from West Bengal after their three officials were allegedly abducted. Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee, who was at the forefront of the agitation against Tatas in Singur when the Left was in power, is at the receiving end of all the criticism this time.

Three officials of the Haldia-based cargo firm, Haldia Bulk Terminals, were allegedly abducted by a group of 50 masked men over the company's decision to mechanise operations at the Kolkata port trust. Following the abduction, the company decided to terminate its contract with the Port trust.

In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Siddharth Nath Singh, Leader, BJP; Vivek Gupta, MP, Rajya Sabha, TMC; Om Prakash Mishra, General Secretary, WBPCC; Niloptal Basu, Senior Leader, CPI (M) and Gurpreet Malhi, Chief Executive Officer, Haldia Bulk Terminals -- discuss whether Singur is being repeated again in West Bengal by top corporate forced to leave the state after abduction and intimidation.
