South Koreans sends aid to North despite tensions

Trucks laden with medicine and other aid stand ready at the border between South and North Korea.

Although tensions are high between the two nations, South Korean civic groups say their northern neighbours can use all the help they can get in the wake of major flooding.

This man from the Serving Society International said he hoped the aid would defuse the animosity of late.

The reclusive and isolated north appealed for international help after being hit by typhoons and torrential rains.

This prompted South Korean authorities to allow aid groups to rally resources.

The Koreas have traded several threatening barbs this week when North Korea threatened attack over anti-government flyers reaching its territories via balloon.

The south banned the leaflets, but said it would respond to any aggression with attacks of its own.
