Locals ran for cover after after gunfire broke out in central Beirut.

The panic came after crowds attempted to storm the office of the Prime Minister. Once they penetrated an outside barrier, police fired teargas to break up the crowd.

Several protesters fainted from the smoke. Lebanese officials say security forces did not shoot at the mob, but fired into the air.

Thousands had gathered for the funeral of Wissam al-Hassan who was killed by a car bomb on Friday. Many are furious over senior intelligence officer's death and called for the prime minister to resign.
