President Obama opposes federal shield law
  • 15 years ago
President Obama recently voiced his opposition to a federal shield law that would allow reporters the right to not reveal their confidential sources. As of right now there is no federal shield law that protect reporters from revealing their sources. The new shield law that is being proposed would allow a judge to decide whether the information a reporter gets from confidential sources is more important for the public good or if it is too dangerous for national security. Republicans say that reporters should always have to reveal their sources if the Department of Justice provides evidence that national security is at risk, but journalists argue they're less likely to report on sensitive issues if they have to reveal their confidential sources.
