Australian media is reporting the actor has separated from his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the actor has thrown himself into work since the separation, though local reporter Peter Ford blames Crowe's tough work schedule for the split.
SOUNDBITE: Peter Ford, showbiz commentator, saying (English):
"Russell told me about five years ago he was going to cut back severely on work. And for a period there he did. He had a couple of months off between each movie, but for the last three years it's been back to back. And because the kids are now in school, they haven't been able to get uprooted and go and join them, so I reckon it's a major factor."
The couple married in 2003, in a purpose-built chapel on Crowe's farm north of Sydney.
