The raid involved hundreds of police and soldiers.

Authorities targeted a no-go area known locally as "Cracolandia" because of the high number of crack cocaine users who live there.

Police seized some drugs and weapons in the raid but no arrests were made.

Security forces have been launching regular raids over the past four years to "pacify" dangerous areas ahead of the World Cup and the Olympics which are to be held in the city in 2014 and 2016.
