The Chinese navy conducts military exercises in the East China Sea, simulating joint air and maritime attacks on an island amid escalating territorial tension with Japan, state media reported on Saturday (September 29).
Video footage released by state broadcaster CCTV showed military jets and warships at sea.
Missile launchers were also seen firing from an unidentified area towards an island in the East China Sea.
CCTV did not give the exact date of the drill, saying it was a government decision not to reveal the date, but said it was staged recently by China's East China Sea Fleet.
Sino-Japanese relations deteriorated sharply since Japan bought the disputed islands in the East China Sea from their private owner, hurting bilateral trade ties and tourism while sparking protests across China.
