Syrian state TV airs footage of the moment a suicide car bomb exploded near an army headquarters in Damascus.

Military officials said four guards were killed and 14 others wounded in attacks on the base on Wednesday (September 26).

The blast was one of two captured on CCTV.

An Islamist militant group has claimed responsibility for the assault, saying suicide attackers posed as guards to enter the compound.

In an internet posting, the Al Nusra Front said two car bombs had detonated and all five attackers had died.

Syrian rebels also said they were behind the attack.

For 18 months opposition fighters have been battling to bring down the ruling government at a cost of 30,000 lives.
