Hitting all the right notes - the stars of musical comedy "Pitch Perfect" walk the red carpet for the movie's Los Angeles premiere.

Starring Twilight's Anna Kendrick, the movie pits a university all-girl singing group against their male rivals in a campus competition.

Elizabeth Banks, who plays a competition judge in the movie and also acted as producer, said the film was throwback to fun musicals of the past.

SOUNDBITE ELIZABETH BANKS, saying (English):

"This I feel is just part of a modern, fresh sort of the old movie musical. Great characters, funny fun people and big cast musical moment."

Banks though was happy she didn't have to flex her vocal muscles.

SOUNDBITE ELIZABETH BANKS, saying (English):

"Oh my gosh, I am so relieved that I did not have to sing in the movie."

Director Jason Moore - who helmed Broadway comedy Avenue Q - said it wasn't just the songs that were right on key.

SOUNDBITE JASON MOORE, saying (English):

"What makes this movie special is that it is funny. It makes you laugh out loud and musicals are fun. But, it really is about the comedy for me and these guys really deliver on all fronts."

Early reviews have been singing the praises of the movie, which has been described as a more edgy version of hit TV show Glee.

"Pitch Perfect" hits selected theatres on September 28.
