Foxconn plant reopens after riot

Police guard a Foxconn electronics factory in China after a riot forced it shut for 24 hours.
Production resumed on Tuesday (September 25) after clashes broke out involving 2,000 employees of the iPhone assembly company.
Thousands of police officers were called in to restore order at the plant that employs some 79,000 workers.
Forty people were injured.
The plant's owner said the unrest was a personal dispute that spiralled out of control.
But workers, who did not want to be identified, blamed security guards and pressure for the violence.

"Security guards beat one worker, and when a lot of others saw that, they pressed it into their hearts and didn't say anything. But this time it was too serious, because they beat the workers too fiercely, and everyone just went crazy."
It's not the first time Chinese labour conditions have come under the microscope.
But Foxconn says it's investing heavily on improving working conditions and raising wages.
