Angry anti-American protests have swept across the Muslim world this week in response to a film that insults the Prophet Mohammad. An attack on the U.S. consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others this week.

In his weekly address U.S. President Barack Obama says there is no excuse for violence.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:

"We stand for religious freedom. And we reject the denigration of any religion - including Islam. Yet there is never any justification for violence. There is no religion that condones the targeting of innocent men and women. There is no excuse for attacks on our Embassies and Consulates. "

Obama also repeated a vow to bring the attackers of the U.S. consulate in Libya to justice.
