U.S. President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail in the battle ground state of Florida Saturday where he continued to target Republican plans to cut taxes.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:

"All they've got to offer is the same prescriptions they've had for 30 years. Tax cuts, tax cuts, gut a few regulations, some more tax cuts. Tax cuts when times are good and tax cuts when times are bad. Tax cuts to help you lose a few extra pounds. Tax cuts to help your love life. (SOMEONE IN THE AUDIENCE SHOUTING RESPONSE) Say, somebody said it doesn't help."

On Friday Republican rival Mitt Romney launched a blistering attack on Obama over disappointing jobs figures.

Obama, entered office during the darkest days of the recession, and has brought unemployment down from a peak of 10 percent in his first year. But the President has been unable to crack the 8 percent barrier - a fact that Romney's camp continues to stress.

Polls show Obama holds a slight edge over Mitt Romney
