Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, still recovering from a gunshot head wound, makes a moving appearance at the Democratic National Convention.
The hall erupted in a standing ovation as Giffords walked across the stage - limping, but without a cane - to lead the pledge of allegiance.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) FORMER ARIZONA CONGRESSWOMAN GABRIELLE GIFFORDS, RECITING PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, SAYING:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Giffords' voice was clear as she led the crowd in the short pledge, but her somewhat hesitant speech showed she is still affected by her injuries.
A gunman attempted to assassinate the congresswoman in January of 2011, during a "meet-and-greet" event in Tucson, Arizona, critically injuring her.
