Belgian city of Liege rocked by grenade attack

Nordine Amrani, a resident of the Belgian city of Liege, threw grenades and opened fire on Christmas shoppers in the city's central square.

Officials report that four people were killed, including Amrani, and up to 75 others wounded in the attack.

While judicial sources report that Amrani had a criminal background, Belgium's federal crisis centre said the attack was neither a terrorist incident nor linked to a pending criminal trial.

While it was not clear how Amrani had died, local media reports indicated that he may have committed suicide.

Al Jazeera's Charlie Angela reports.
