Japanese journalist Mika Yamamoto in the Syrian city of Aleppo --- hours before she was killed in a gunfight.

She was with fighters from the Free Syrian Army. When another part of the city came under attack, Yamamoto didn't hesitate.

SOUNDBITE: Journalist Mika Yamamoto saying (Japanese):

"We are heading right now to the front lines where they have just bombed the town with three bombs. We believe there's been considerable damage. We are heading out there to investigate."

There she documented locals fleeing and those who stayed behind.

These are the last images from Yamamoto's camera taken just moments before she was shot.

An award winning journalist for the Tokyo based news wire, Japan Press, Yamamoto was 45 years old.
