Panic spreads in India after Assam violence

Packed into a Mumbai train station, Indians await passage out of the city.
Thousands have been leaving Mumbai as fears grow of a backlash against people from India's northeastern states.
It follows violence against Muslims in Assam and neighbouring Myanmar.
Clashes in recent weeks have seen 75 people killed and more than 400,000 displaced.
Rumours of revenge attacks, fuelled by social media, have created a climate of fear.

"When we go out at night, Muslims threaten us by saying that they will cut us into pieces. They say: 'You people are threatening us in Assam and killing us there, we will not spare you here'. So we are scared."
Mumbai is not the only area forced to put on more trains.
Stations in Bangalore have also seen thousands of extra passengers.
The authorities say rumours are spreading like "wildfire".
They have tried to assure northeast migrants that they have no reason to fear.
