Al Starita (?-?) was one of the Starita brothers, all great musicians and/or bandleaders. In 1921 the Starita brothers formed a band in the Boston area, where they were born. In1923 Al and his brother Ray traveled to Britian, were soon they would be playing with the original Savoy Orpheans. From 1925 till 1928, Al Starita led and recorded prolifically with the Kit-Cat Band. Subsequently, from 1928 till 1929 he led and recorded with the Piccadilly Players. From 1934 till 1941, he primarily performed in New England and New York, where he reportedly played frequently at the Roseland Ballroom. In 1942 and1943 he toured in the States. He played for several bands including the one of Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey. When he was with Carmen Cavallero, he played in Florida and loved it so much he decided to move there and decided to settle in West Palm Beach, where he performed with a large orchestra at the Pennsylvania Hotel in West Palm Beach for a few years. From 1944 till 1960, Al Starita led society orchestras and small combos. He played many war benefit gigs in Florida. Later he formed a small combo and a permanent gig at the Okeechobee Bar and Grill in West Palm Beach. This would be the location where he stayed performing until his death. Besides his bandleading, Al Starita always had a day occupation (catering service, repairing of church and house organs, music teaching studio, printing business...). This hot performance was recorded in 1927.
