Annan vows to keep pushing for Syrian transition

International mediator Kofi Annan, who resigned from his post as Joint Special Envoy to Syria on Thursday, said on Friday that he will continue to work for a "smooth transition" in Syria.

"I'm well, I continue my work, and I'm in touch with the parties, and I've been talking to quite a few foreign ministers about the issue and also in touch with the U.N. headquarters and our team on the ground so we're doing what we can and also going to make sure we assure a smooth transition," Annan said.

The former U.N. secretary-general said he was frustrated by "finger-pointing" at the United Nations while the armed rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad becomes increasingly bloody.
