Russia is under pressure to crackdown on piracy after the United States put the country on a list of the world's worst copyright violators.
Tens of billions of dollars are lost by American companies every year due to intellectual property theft.
The lax attitude towards copyright theft and piracy has its roots in the Soviet Union.
It wasn't long ago that western goods were hard to come by, but they are relatively easy to duplicate.
