Credibility of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks questioned
Tzipi Livni, the Israeli opposition leader, has spoken out against the current government's handling of negotiations with the Palestinians.
She said she disagreed with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's rejection of a US proposal to extend a moratorium on illegal settlement building. Livni made the comments alongside Salam Fayyad, the Palestinian prime minister, in a rare joint interview.
He called into question the credibility of the negotiations and the US-led peace process.
The comments come after Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, invited Livni for a private meeting in Washington on Friday. It is the first time the two had met outside of Israel since Netanyahu came into office.
Meanwhile, George Mitchell, the US envoy to the Middle East, is now on his way back to the region.
