Haiti plagued by cholera outbreak

Hurricane Tomas has caused flooding that killed eight people and heavily impacted the cholera-infested region of Artibonite, the region where the first cases of the water-borne disease were diagnosed.

The Artibonite's river has been swollen by the rains brought by the hurricane and there is significant flooding across the Artibonite region.

Many fear that these waters could be contaminated with cholera.
