Five coffins draped in the Israeli flag arrived at Ben Gurion International airport in the early hours of Friday morning (July 20) after a suicide bomber carried out an attack that killed seven people in a bus transporting Israeli tourists in Bulgaria.

Soldiers placed the coffins before mourning family members on the airport tarmac, where a service was held.

The Israeli foreign ministry confirmed five Israelis were killed in the attack in which the bomber and the Bulgarian bus driver also died.

Mourners cried over the coffins before soldiers carried them away again to be transported by ambulance.

Israel has blamed Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants for the attack which took place on Wednesday (July 18) at Burgas airport, a popular gateway for tourists visiting the Black Sea coast.

The tourists had arrived in Bulgaria on a charter flight from Israel and were on the bus in the airport car park when the blast tore through the vehicle.
