A wave of violence in Afghanistan.

Seven Afghan civilians were killed Monday after a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle packed with explosives in front of Kandahar University.

Two dozen people were wounded.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai condemned the attack in a statement. He said the attack was carried out by enemies of the Afghan people.

On Sunday an Afghan policeman opened fire killing three British soldiers at a checkpoint in southern Helmand province.

A fourth British soldier was also injured.

The assailant was injured and later detained.

So-called green on blue shootings, referring to the uniform of the Afghan security forces and the color of NATO, has severely strained ties between President Hamid Karzai and his Western backers.

Before Sunday's assault there were 17 such attacks this year with 23 NATO soldiers killed. That compares with 11 attacks and 24 deaths in the same period in 2011.
