Eagles' Glenn Frey shows his jazzy side

Eagles founding member Glenn Frey has discovered his jazzy side.

"After Hours" is the 63-year-old crooner's first record in nearly twenty years, featuring a collection of love songs he grew up listening to.

Although the idea had been around for years, it was fellow musician Michael Bolton, who encouraged Frey to get into the studio after he saw him perform at a golf tournament in 2000.

"I know Michael a bit and he says: 'Glenn, I forgot to tell you the other night, you were really good you know. You really handled that material, you know. Your voice is well suited to it -- have you thought about making a record?' And I said: 'Well, yes I have.' And he said: 'Well you should.'"

Frey said he had fun during the recording process, although the experience was slightly different to when working on own material.

"Before you go out and sing and perform you have to get prepared and so I enjoyed that, you know the preparation in it, which I wouldn't do if I was doing a song that I had written myself, because I would know how to song it through the course of writing it so it was very in that sense it was different."

Frey has enjoyed success with his solo career. "The Heat Is On" featured on the "Beverly Hills Cop" soundtrack and "You Belong to the City" was on "Miami Vice".

And it looks like "After Hours" won't be his last record. Frey is keen on recording a follow up.

SOUNDBITE: Singer-Songwriter Glenn Frey, saying (English):

"I feel I just got my feet wet, and I'm starting to feel comfortable and me and my partners feel like we know what we're doing. And so we've already talked about wanting to do this again. There's other singers and other songs I would like to have a crack at. But it's all about balance you know it's you know the real world is calling right now."

So while his immediate future plans are more of private nature, fans of the Eagles can look forward to the band's forthcoming anniversary plans, which include a documentary and a possible tour.
