Belgaum,Jun12 : Holding that the case was the rarest of rare cases, a local court today sentenced Ravindranth Choughule, who hired a gang to kill his wife, and four others to life in the 2007 murder. Additional District Magistrate Sanganna Patil also imposed a fine of Rs ten thousand each on Ranjit Shintre, Ravindranath, Rajesh Mense, Vijayannad Shinde and Reena Tashildar. Ravindranath had hired the Pravin Shintre gang to murder his wife, Sheetal. Sheetal's uncle Yeshwant Kadam had alleged that Ravindra had masterminded the murder to marry his lover Reena Tashidar and had left Sheetal at the house of Rajesh Mense, a Shintre gang member, in August 2007. The five-member gang had allegedly raped her continuously for many hours, strangled her and dumped her body. Ravindranath had lodged a complaint stating that his wife was missing. On September 6, 2007, Pravin Shintre was shot dead in an encounter by Belgaum police. A total of 87 witnesses were examined during the trial.
