uu Kyi appeals for UK support on democracy

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's opposition leader, has called on the UK to help her country move towards democracy.

She made her appeal during an address on Thursday to both houses of parliament in London.

Suu Kyi, who spent 15 years under house arrest in Myanmar, has become an icon of non-violent political resistance. She was released two years ago as part of the country's political reforms.

The 67-year-old said that despite reforms in her country, Myanmar still had a long way to go to become democratic.
