"Joyful" is how Hot Chip describe their latest album "In Our Heads" and, judging by the music video for lead single "Night and Day", there's their trademark quirkiness too.

The space-themed video features British acting legend Terence Stamp and Dutch supermodel Lara Stone.

And a sprinkling of street dancing monks.

The British quintet signed copies of their new album at Fopp record store in London (Tuesday, June 12).

Alexis Taylor said they looked to British comic Peter Serafinowicz, of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Stars Wars" fame, to bring the weird concept to life.

"Peter Serafinowicz who made the video, we kind of left it in his capable hands to make a strange video that might not make too much sense, and he did exactly that with those great people starring in it."

On their latest album, the group doesn't stray too far from their signature synth pop sound.

"In Our Heads" also explores soul, R&B, Chicago house, disco and funk.

Group member Joe Goddard said steady is the way they like it.

"There's really not very much different about this record, we just kind of make this weird pop music that we've been doing for quite a long time."

There's another reason Goddard says the album is upbeat.

"Well actually I had a baby boy three weeks ago, which actually is kind of joyful, but I need more sleep."

Many in the group have become fathers and are having to come to terms with getting older.

They are slowing down, they say, but only slightly.
