Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tore a ligament in his left leg while playing soccer on Monday (June 11) and will have to wear a plaster cast for several weeks, his office said in a statement.

Netanyahu was taking part in a game involving Arab and Jewish youths, part of a tourism promotion in Jerusalem. Despite the injury he played on and scored a goal, his office said.

"Today I participated in a youth soccer match, in order to promote tourism to Israel and to show the real nice face of the State of Israel. During the match I tore a ligament in my leg. This is not exactly the Euro matches I will be watching along with many of Israel's citizens, but tomorrow I will return to the Prime Minister office, and will continue to play for Israel in other fields," Netanyahu said in a video distributed to the media.
