Bloodied and in shock - these victims of a bus bomb in Pakistan are rushed to hospital for treatment.

Nineteen people were killed in the blast on the outskirts of Peshawar in Northwest Pakistan.

Many others were wounded, some critically.

Police say the bus was taking around 40 passengers home after work - mostly government employees.

This young man was one of the lucky ones - he says he was sitting on the bus when he was thrown out by the force of the explosion.

He doesn't remember what happened after that.

The blast is the latest in a series of bombings in Peshawar since the Pakistani military stepped up operations five years ago against militants.

The area borders Pakistan's semi-autonomous ethnic Pashtun region along the Afghan border where many Islamist militants have found refuge.
