00:01High-level hints on hiding things.
00:10The inside story of a Chrysler Group car from the outside.
00:18The students are from Mallow Junior High in Shelby Township, Michigan, a Detroit suburb.
00:23The teachers on this day are Chrysler Group designers.
00:27We're here to engage with the students, kind of inspire them hopefully,
00:32create an awareness of design and engineering,
00:35and they get a chance to not only interface with people that actually worked on the vehicles,
00:41but the vehicles up close.
00:42They'll get a chance to sit in the vehicles.
00:44We've got brochures and handouts and material for them.
00:48It's the first year Chrysler's been involved in the annual event
00:51where Detroit automakers wheel out their wares and make their experts available
00:55to give Mallow students a little career guidance.
00:58Retired drafting teacher Harry Istuck, who organized the event since 2006,
01:03says interacting with the real deal makes a real difference to students
01:08just beginning to formulate their career goals.
01:11Not only do the students get information from the experts,
01:14people that do it for a living, they also get to see the fruits of those individuals' labor.
01:21The latest technology that our major American corporations have to offer.
01:27And it's exciting.
01:28If you want kids to learn, you have to excite them.
01:32And there's no better way than doing it this way.
01:36Did the designers make an impression?
01:38You bet.
01:39Yeah, I always wanted to go into the automotive industry
01:41since I was like 7 or 8 when I got into the cars.
01:43It was very cool.
01:45It was like, for me, once-in-a-lifetime careers.
01:49Any, uh, after talking to him, any thoughts of, uh, you know,
01:52going into that line of work at all?
01:54Um, I think, I think it would be cool just designing cars
01:57and seeing how they would turn out in the real world
01:59and watching people buy them.
02:01It'd be kind of cool.
02:02Cool enough, perhaps, to entice at least a few students
02:06to have their designs on a vehicle design career.
02:10Reporting from Shelby Township, Michigan,
02:12I'm Ed Garstin for Chrysler Electronic Communications.
