At least 78 dead in massacre

The latest massacre in Syria claims the lives of at least 78 people... including children... from the small central province of Hama on Wednesday.

Video from a social media website purports to show some of the victims. Reuters cannot independently verify the video.

Witnesses say at least 40 of the victims were women and children... and that it was pro-government forces who carried out the killings.

Activists in another province protested in support of victims.

Syria's 15 month revolt against President Bashar al-Assad's rule has grown increasingly bloody in recent months.

Less than two weeks ago government forces killed 108 people in the town of Houla. Nearly half of those victims were also children.
