The east coast state of Maryland took a beating on Friday as powerful storms swept through the area.

Roofs were torn from houses... trees were uprooted.... cars were flipped over.

Emergency crews worked to assess the damage. Several people say they saw funnel clouds, but it's not immediately know if a tornado touched down.

Still, tornado alerts and warnings remained in effect for large parts of the Mid-Atlantic United States.
