The man, surnamed Zhang, lives in the city of Kuming in China's Yunnan Province. He was sentenced to life in prison in the 1970s for killing and dismembering a person but was released on parole after spending 18 years in jail. Over the past five years, 15 boys and young men between the ages of 12 and 22 have been reported missing in the area, but police had refused to investigate the cases because in their view "there were no clear evidence of harm done to the missing persons." Zhang was caught this month after a missing 19-year-old man's ID was discovered in his home.
