Until a few months ago, Republican congresswoman Michelle Bachmann was running for the White House. Now the Tea Party favorite is a Swiss citizen.

She explained her decision to seek dual citizenship to reporters in Washington.

SOUNDBITE: U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann saying:

"Well, my husband is one hundred percent Swiss and were raised in Switzerland. They were married there. They came to the United States. They had bought a farm in Wisconsin and raised their three sons here."

She also laughed off suggestions she should run for office in Switzerland.

Asked about her favorite places in Switzerland, she had this to say.

SOUNDBITE: U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann saying:

"Oh goodness. You know, I really have to say that I love going to the Brienzersee and the Thunersee. It is beautiful, but also, my husband's home. My husband is from Maerstetten and Wil, and that is a beautiful area. And, so I love being there as well. It is tough to find a place not to like in Switzerland."

Bachmann along with three of her five children activated their Swiss citizenship several week according to a spokesman for the embassy.
