Tensions high in central Nigerian city

Residents remain nervous in the central Nigerian city of Jos, two days after 500 people were killed in surrounding villages.

The United Nations, the US and human rights groups have called on the Nigerian government to investigate and prosecute those involved in renewed violence between Muslims and Christians in central Nigeria.

They have also urged Nigeria to assure the residents' security.

However, reports have emerged that the governor of Plateau State, warned the army of possible attacks, but was ignored.

Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from Jos (10 Mar 2010).
