Dissident confirmed as taking refuge in US embassy

A fellow dissident has confirmed that the blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng has taken refuge in the US embassy in Beijing after escaping 19 months of house arrest. Chen is said to be under US protection although there has been no official word from Washington. Talks are reported to be underway to establish Chen's status.
