The Wanted: We are more than just a boy band

The Wanted look like a boy band, sound like a boy band but they insist, they're more than just that.

British teen pop has taken the U.S. by storm.

The Wanted are releasing their self-titled debut EP this week in America.

They're following in fellow Brits' footsteps One Direction whose debut album reached number one on the U.S. Billboard charts last month.

The Wanted are formed by Tom, Max, Siva, Nathan and Jay.

SOUNDBITE: Jay McGuiness, Member of The Wanted, saying (English):

"We accept that a lot of young teenage or into-their-20s girls do like us, but we respect their musical choice as much as we respect a 50-year-old dude because why does anyone think their musical taste is less relevant? We embrace the boy band side, and we embrace the music side, it all comes together in the end."

Their U.S. management is Scooter Braun, responsible for another famous boy wonder, Justin Bieber.

SOUNDBITE: Scooter Braun, Manager of The Wanted, saying (English):

"It's funny because I used to be a party promoter the last time boy bands were huge, and I knew a lot of those guys, and they like to party and drink and do all that stuff too, but they always had to hide it, and I think it's refreshing to see a boy band that doesn't hide it and just doesn't care."

The Wanted have taken a more adult route than counterparts One Direction, with heavier dance beats and raunchier music videos such as their single "Glad You Came", which reached number three in the U.S.

The Wanted are scheduled to tour the U.S. and the UK in the coming months, including an appearance in the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations.
