This is the man the Chinese government wants as the next leader of the Tibetan Buddhist movement...

The Panchen Lama, the second highest ranking member of Tibetan Buddhism after the Dalai Lama, made his first overseas trip to Hong Kong on Thursday.

Speaking at the 3rd annual World Buddhist Forum, the Panchen Lama discussed inner science as a means for achieving peace and harmony.

(SOUNDBITE)(Mandarin) THE 11TH PANCHEN LAMA, SAYING:

"To achieve beauty within nature, world peace, social harmony and family unity, the only way is to establish a complete science of the self."

In 1995, the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama appointed rival reincarnations to fill the post of 11th Panchen Lama.

As such, exiled Tibetan Buddhists don't recognize him as the true 11th Panchen Lama.

The Tibetan buddhists and the Dalai Lama have been in exile for more than 50 years.
