Asia reacts to US case of mad cow

Reaction has been trickling in over the announcement of a fourth case of mad cow disease in the U.S.
Although information is still incoming, officials in South Korea say they will err on the side of caution.
(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) YEO IN HONG, OFFICIAL OF MINISTRY FOR FOOD, AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND FISHERIES, SAYING:
"We think it will take some time to get the information, so we decided to intensify our inspection of the beef imported from the United States for the period."
The Japanese government says no action is necessary because of already strict standards for beef imports.
Officials from the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday they were investigating a dairy cow from California that contracted the disease but said the animal did not enter the food supply.
In Taiwan, U.S. beef imports are a hot button political issue.
A legislative meeting on the subject was heating up Wednesday morning with members calling for zero tolerance of tainted meat.
Earlier in the year, protesters hurled eggs and manure at the Agricultural Council over a proposal to lift a ban on U.S. beef containing a food additive.
