Virender Sehwag was in blistering form in the opening game, hitting 87 not out to guide his side to a comprehensive eight-wicket win with four overs to spare. Pune fought hard to recover from early wickets with Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa scoring half-centuries but their efforts were in vain as three Sehwag sixes and ten fours eased the Daredevils home.
The evening game was a non-starter thanks to horrendous weather in Kolkata. Both teams took a point apiece but there was an unfortunate incident when part of a stand collapsed, injuring two spectators.
