Relative calm hours after Syrian ceasefire

Syrian troops appear to be holding their fire hours after a U.N.-backed ceasefire took effect at dawn.

Amateur video posted to a social website which Reuters cannot independently verify shows government tanks sitting outside the town of Bayanoun.

Armed men in military uniforms said to belong to Syrian army appeared to be keeping watch from a rooftop in Ankhel. Government tanks also appeared to be stationed in at least one part of Hama.

Despite the appearance of relative calm, a source in the government says the the Syrian army will retaliate if there are any attacks on civilians or soldiers.
