A former Russian spy who headed the KGB has shot himself dead aged 77.
Leonid Shebarshin was found at his central Moscow apartment with a single gunshot wound.
A suicide note was found at the scene.
Sherbashin briefly held the KGB's top post after a hardline Communist coup attempt in 1991.
