Colombia retrieves rebel bodies

Colombian authorities collect the remains of 34 FARC rebels in a remote jungle region of the South American country.

The operation comes a day after troops attacked a guerilla encampment, killing 36 insurgents.

The bodies were collected from near Vista Hermosa, and brought to a military base aboard four Black Hawk helicopters.

The remaining two bodies were not retrieved because they were almost completely destroyed in the attack.

The offensive was the second recent blow to the drug-funded rebels.

Last week, 33 guerillas were killed in a separate operation.

The attacks come as part of a new military strategy to fight the Marxist guerillas by destroying their key armed and financial units, marking a shift from the previous focus of tracking down and killing their leaders.
