Rally over Florida teen killing

Hundreds turned out for this rally in New York as the outcry over the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin gets increasingly louder.

The unarmed teenager was shot dead in Florida last month.

The neighbourhood watch volunteer who killed him claims self-defence and has not been arrested.

Martin's parents told the gathering justice was not being done.

SOUNDBITE: SABRINA FULTON, TRAYVON MARTIN'S MOTHER, SAYING (English):

"Because our son was not committing any crime. Our son is your son. I want you guys to stand up for justice and for what's right. This is not a black and white thing. This is a right and wrong thing. Justice for Trayvon."

SOUNDBITE: TRACY MARTIN, FATHER OF TRAYVON MARTIN, SAYING (English):

"Our son did not deserve to die. There's nothing we can say to bring him back but I'm here today to ensure that justice is served and no other parents have to go through this again."

Trayvon Martin was on his way home from a convenience store when he died.

He was followed by armed neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman who'd reported a suspicious person in the area.

Zimmerman's father says he's the target of false and misleading allegations.

The case centres on Florida's Stand Your Ground law which gives a shooter wide latitude to claim a killing in self-defence.

The case has attracted national attention and an online petition with more than 818, 000 signatures demanding Zimmerman's arrest.
