ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: Amateur video gathered by the France 24 news network showed the moment on Wednesday when heavily armed anti-terror police forced their way into a building as part of an operation to apprehend the man they say is responsible for this week's shooting in a Jewish school in Toulouse and the separate murders of three French soldiers.

The video shows the police dressed an anti-ballistic armour advancing behind thick shields. They force their way into what appears to be a garage. Other plainclothes forces approach carrying semi-automatic weapons. A few seconds later the police emerge from the garage.

Anti-terror police from the elite RAID unit launched an operation to detain Mohamed Merha before daybreak, but moved back after he returned their fire. During talks with hostage negotiators, he admitted to being behind the slaying of three Jewish children and a rabbi on Monday and the killing of three French soliders last week.
